For children (Infants) under 2 years of age, one baby bag measuring 40 x 30 x 10 cm and weighing up to 5 kg is free of charge. For each infant or toddler (up to the age of 2), one additional stroller, buggy, child seat, or travel cot may be transported.

GENERAL

The dimensions for small hand baggage are: 40 x 30 x 10 cm and a maximum weight of 5 kg.

The dimensions for large hand baggage are: 55 x 40 x 23 cm and a maximum weight of 8 kg.

The maximum permissible dimensions for checked baggage are 158 cm. For safety and occupational health reasons, a single piece of checked baggage may not weigh more than 32 kg, regardless of the free baggage allowance.

You can add additional baggage items online at any time up to 2 hours before departure (except for special baggage). To do so, simply log in to your BERWAYS customer account or go to “My Booking” and enter your booking number.

At the airport, you can book additional baggage at short notice at the check-in counter for a higher fee. Further information is available directly at the check-in counter or from our respective handling agent.

Baggage that is not considered free baggage allowance, particularly due to its weight, bulkiness, or other difficulties in transport (e.g., sports equipment or weapons), must be registered with us and is subject to a fee (except for mobility aids, etc.). Please register at least 72 hours before your departure. If you fail to do so, you will not be entitled to have your baggage transported.

Only once you have received confirmation from us will your special baggage be accepted for transport. Whether your baggage can be transported depends on available capacity and safety regulations. Therefore, the amount of baggage you can take with you may be limited or, in individual cases, completely refused.

Please pack your special baggage adequately and appropriately so that it is protected for the journey and no external or internal damage occurs. We may refuse special baggage if it is not properly packed. If we accept baggage that was not recognizable as inadequately packed at the time of acceptance, we accept no liability for any damage.

Bikes must be packed in suitable packaging. Handlebars must be turned inwards, front wheels locked, pedals removed, and air let out of the tires. Electric bikes are not permitted for transport.

Animals (with the exception of recognized assistance dogs) are not permitted on BERWAYS flights.

Up to two wheelchairs or mobility equipment for disabled passengers can be transported in the cargo hold. Wheelchairs and mobility equipment should be collapsible.

The size of the cargo hold and the prescribed cargo hold weight limits may make it impossible to transport battery-powered wheelchairs or mobility equipment in particular. Please note that battery-powered wheelchairs can only be transported upright and therefore the dimensions of the aircraft cargo hold door may make loading impossible. Furthermore, the battery must be removed before departure and transported in the cabin. Loading and unloading at an airport may also be impossible due to a lack of loading equipment.

Therefore, due to dangerous goods regulations (in particular, wet batteries are prohibited items, but dry and gel batteries are permitted), a claim for carriage only exists if the intended carriage of the wheelchair or mobility aid is registered in good time (at least 72 hours before departure) with our customer service, stating the dimensions and weight.

Medical equipment, devices, and medications must be declared for safety reasons and will be transported in the cargo hold for personal use, upon presentation of a medical certificate and unless prohibited, after written confirmation, up to a maximum of 10 kg per passenger, provided they do not fall under the category of permitted hand/cabin baggage.

For safety and space reasons, assistance dogs are only entitled to transportation if the intended transportation of the assistance dog is reported to customer service in writing or by telephone.

We are sorry that your baggage has been lost or damaged.

Report the damage or loss immediately to the responsible handling agent (“Lost & Found”) at your destination airport and have a damage report drawn up. Alternatively, you can send the damage report to BERWAYS.

If the loss or damage is only reported after you have left the airport premises, you must prove that it did not occur between baggage claim and reporting.

Safety

You may not carry items in your checked baggage or carry-on baggage that could endanger the aircraft, the equipment on board, or other persons. This includes, in particular, explosives, compressed gases, oxidizing, radioactive, corrosive, or magnetizing substances, highly flammable, toxic, or aggressive substances, and all liquid substances classified as dangerous goods according to dangerous goods regulations.

Items that we deem unsuitable for transport due to their weight, size, or nature may also not be carried. Explosive substances of any kind are prohibited. Gasoline lighters (e.g., Zippos) may not be carried; however, gas lighters may be carried on your person.

You must notify us before departure if you wish to carry weapons of any kind, in particular firearms, bladed weapons, and spray devices. We will decide whether the weapons can be transported as checked baggage. They must be unloaded, fitted with a safety lock, and securely packed. Ammunition is subject to the dangerous goods regulations of the ICAO and IATA.

An exception applies to police officers: if they identify themselves with their service ID card at check-in and boarding, they may carry their weapon. In this case, they must hand over the weapon to the pilot in command during the flight if they are carrying it as part of their official duties. If you are carrying items that look like weapons, ammunition, or explosive substances, either externally or due to their labeling, you must notify us and disclose this before traveling. We only transport these items as checked baggage or cargo.

Plastic or metal toy guns, slingshots, cutlery, razor blades (with safety or open blades), commercially available toys that could be used as weapons, knitting needles, sports bats such as billiard, snooker, or polo sticks, skateboards, fishing rods, paddles, and other sharp or potentially dangerous objects may not be taken into the cabin. Nail scissors, nail files, stick combs, and syringes are also prohibited in the passenger cabin, unless they are demonstrably for medical purposes during the flight, in which case you must notify us in advance. All these items may only be transported in checked baggage if they are securely packed.

Liquids may only be carried in the cabin to a limited extent on flights and connecting flights departing from the EU. These include, for example, care and cosmetic products. All containers must be transported in a transparent, resealable plastic bag (e.g., a zipper bag) with a maximum capacity of one liter. Medications and special foods, such as baby food, that you need during the flight may be transported outside the plastic bag, but must be presented at the security checkpoint.

Your checked baggage must not contain any items that are dangerous, unsafe, or unsuitable for transport, for example due to their weight, size, nature, or perishability (e.g., food), fragility, or sensitivity. Please also do not pack any valuables in your checked baggage. These include in particular:

  • Money, jewelry, precious metals, or precious stones
  • Laptops, cameras, phones, or other electronic devices (including additional batteries such as power banks)
  • Securities, ID cards, samples, house or car keys, and medication

Additional batteries and power banks must not exceed a capacity of 100 watt hours per device. A maximum of five devices are permitted per person. They must be stored in your hand luggage so that they are immediately accessible.

For safety reasons, power banks (mobile additional batteries) may not be used on board the aircraft and must always be switched off.
