Accessible travel with Berways

On this page you will find the most important information for passengers with reduced mobility and special needs (PRM). We at Berways are committed to providing all travelers with a safe, comfortable and accessible flight.

Pregnancy

Pregnant women can travel up to the 36th week of pregnancy if they present a medical certificate (e.g. maternity passport) confirming the stage of pregnancy. However, if the flight is after the 36th week of pregnancy, we may refuse transportation, even if only the return flight falls within this period. In order to avoid health risks, we recommend that you consult your doctor before traveling.

If you need assistance at the airport or during the flight, you can register various support services with Berways. These include, for example

  • Escort through the airport
  • Assistance with boarding and disembarking
  • Provision of mobility aids (e.g. wheelchair transportation at the airport)

Registration required: Please register your need for assistance at least 72 hours before departure via our customer service.

Up to one mobility aid (e.g. manual or electric wheelchairs) per passenger will be transported free of charge in the hold. Wheelchairs should be foldable if possible. The transportation of electric wheelchairs is only possible under certain conditions:

  • The battery must be removable and carried in the cabin
  • The wheelchair must be able to be transported standing up (due to the door size of the cargo hold)
  • Wet batteries are not permitted; dry or gel batteries are permitted

Please let us know when you register: Dimensions and weight of the mobility aid | Type of battery, if available

Note: At a few airports, transportation cannot be carried out due to technical conditions. Early consultation with customer service is therefore important, although this is very rare.

Recognized assistance and guide dogs (e.g. guide dogs, signal dogs) may fly in the passenger cabin free of charge. Prior registration and proof of the dog’s training are required. Please also register your dog at least 72 hours before departure.

The following items can be carried:

  • Medical devices (e.g. CPAP, inhalers)
  • Medication (incl. syringes)
  • Special medical baggage (up to max. 10 kg) – free of charge in the hold

Please note:

  • Registration & medical certificate required
  • Authorization must be confirmed in writing by Berways
  • Devices with batteries are subject to special safety regulations

If you require assistance during the flight (e.g. to go to the toilet or for medical care), Berways may request an accompanying person to assist you.

This accompanying person must:

  • have full legal capacity
  • be able to actively assist you

Free transportation for accompanying persons is not provided. The regular fares apply.

The number of passengers with reduced mobility per flight is limited (for safety reasons). Please indicate your need for assistance at the time of booking or at least 72 hours before departure.

Special or bulky baggage with a medical purpose (e.g. therapy equipment) must also be registered in advance. Berways accepts no liability for damage to particularly sensitive special baggage, please protect it adequately.

FAQ

How can I request special support?

To request special assistance, please contact our customer service team up to 78 hours before departure. We will ensure that all necessary arrangements are made to make your trip as comfortable as possible.

Passengers with disabilities are given priority on boarding in order to ensure a smooth process. The ground staff is available to assist you and make sure that you are comfortable on board.

It is possible to bring a wheelchair free of charge for passengers with reduced mobility, but this must be indicated at the time of booking. Electric wheelchairs can only be transported to a limited extent due to limited cargo space. The wheelchair must be in a condition that ensures safe loading and transport. A claim for carriage is only valid if the intended carriage of the wheelchair has been announced in advance with dimensions and weight and confirmed by the airline. In particular, the regulations for the transport of dangerous goods must be complied with. Therefore, the batteries/ batteries must be removed and carried in hand luggage.

Yes, you can bring your own wheelchair. Please let us know your requirements at the time of booking so we can make sure that all necessary arrangements are made. The wheelchair is taken into the hold of the aircraft.

In principle, there are no seats specifically reserved for people with disabilities. However, for safety reasons, seats at emergency exits and other areas cannot be used by people with reduced mobility.
